Who Are They?
Anchor are a premium quality, fashion-inspired crafts brand with a keen focus towards the world of embroidery thread, crochet & knitting yarns as well as their wonderful range of macramé cord. Now a part of the Mez crafting powerhouse, Anchor are considered to be one of the top manufacturers available.
Their History
The Anchor brand can trace it’s routes back to over 250 years ago when in 1866 the Clark family adopted the Anchor brand for their embroidery threads.
The Clark family consisting of James & Patrick clark, a known pair of weavers, had managed to produce a cotton based yarn to rival that of the silk or linen yarns that were prevalent at the time. At the time they were producing these firsts in cotton thread manufacturing in Paisley in Scotland before later joining forces with another Paisley based thread manufacturer, Coats.
Together they formed J&P Coats and quickly became the biggest thread manufacturer and exported in the world.
Coats were known worldwide for their quality standards and every care was taken to run at this same quality throughout their European mills. This same attention to detail and quality control can be found within the brand today and is followed throughout the Mez brands.
Since its start in Scotland, the Coats & Anchor brands have moved around Europe following the trends & fluctuations of the industry, first moving to Germany to merge with Mez and now to one of Mez’s original mills in Hungary.
